As this competition is a fundraising effort for our literary missions, writers participate to not only have their work reviewed and published, but also to help RED OCHRE PRESS raise money for underprivileged, literary students.

All the proceeds funnel into our Southeast Asia fund to buttress our current efforts in Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, and the Philippines. While we would love to print more complimentary copies for the winners, we simply can not afford to do so if we plan to fully carry out our missions. We operate under our "Literature For A Cause" staple, actively promoting both high-quality literature and literacy. Of course, with this as our stance, we invite you to join the movement!

ELIGIBILITY

Both novice & experienced authors are welcome to enter.
Translations & previously self-published books are not eligible.
Individual poems/stories/essays many have been published previously in magazines, journals, anthologies, and chapbooks,

but the collection as a whole must be unpublished.

IMPORTANT TIDBITS

We will blindly review manuscripts between 25 and 80 pages.
Both Poetry & Prose are welcome (e.g. poems, prose poems, fiction, non-fiction, essays, etc.)
Submissions must accompany a non-refundable entry fee of $15.00USD.

Ethics Statement:

We wholeheartedly endorse and comply with the following statement released by the Council of Literary Magazines and Presses:

CLMP’s community of independent literary publishers believes that ethical contests serve our shared goal: to connect writers and readers by publishing exceptional writing. We believe that intent to act ethically, clarity of guidelines, and transparency of process form the foundation of an ethical contest. To that end, we agree to:

conduct our contests as ethically as possible and to address any unethical behavior on the part of our readers, judges, or editors;
provide clear and specific contest guidelines - defining conflict of interest for all parties involved; and
make the mechanics of our selection process available to the public.

This Code recognizes that different contest models produce different results, but that each model can be run ethically. We have adopted this Code to reinforce our integrity and dedication as a publishing community and to ensure that our contests contribute to a vibrant literary heritage.

SUBMISSIONS

Ø There is a non-refundable entry fee of $15.00USD.
Ø You may submit as many manuscripts as you choose, however, each is considered separately and must include a separate entry fee.
Ø Entries must be mailed between December 20th, 2012 and February 1, 2013.
o       Winners will be announced on March 15, 2013.
Ø Please Include Cover Letter and Biography in your submissions.
o We ask that you remove all identifying information from the script itself, however.
                     -Each CoverLetter/Biography packet will be assigned a number, which we will then place on the script. This is how we will repair submissions during the response phrase.
o We ask that you only present one poem per page.
